Blether with Brown: Four Smiths take to field for Stirling Albion

Stirling Albion boss Greig McDonald has been busy over the summer recruiting new players.

Two of the players he signed last month had the name Smith, bringing the number of players with that surname currently at Forthbank to four with two of them actually called Darren!

And they all played in the 3-0 weekend Petrofac Training Cup win against hosts Elgin, with Darren Lee Smith and Gordon Smith netting.

The two others who played were Chris and ‘plain’ Darren.

Midfielder Darren Lee (26) came from Stenhousemuir, with fellow-midfielder Darren (34) joining from Arbroath at the start of this year.

Defender Chris (25) last played for Falkirk, with striker Gordon (23) coming to The Binos from Raith Rovers.

And this begs the question . . . has there ever been four or more players with the same surname playing for one team in a professional match in Scotland?

If there has been, I’m sure BwB readers will soon inform me.
