Seeing the photo of Crieff Earngrove on March 25 brought back memories to my colleague James Masson of another favourite of the club.
“When you look at our football results columns, it’s not unusual to see some teams getting a right hiding,” said James.
“Players and officials can react in different ways to such setbacks.
“Many years ago, the now-defunct Earngrove suffered a 13-4 reverse at the hands of another junior club.
“When someone asked the Perthshire club’s secretary Bob Smart for his reflections on the game he quipped back in his Aberdonian brogue: ‘Awfy needin’ forrits.’
“Presumably a 14-13 win would have gone down a treat with Bob.”
