Blether with Brown: Alarm clock was prize at North End 5s
ByEvening Telegraph Reporter
Danny Brady sent in this lovely photo, which has connections to the much-lauded and much-missed North End 5s.
The North End Fives was a legendary competition run by the Dundee junior club of the same name, with all games being played on their ground in the Fairmuir area of the city.
Danny said: “This is a photo I found recently and my dad, also Danny (second from left), told me they were ‘runners-up in the North End Fives’.
“They called themselves Coldside Rangers and I think it must have been taken in the late 40s or early 50s (my dad was born in 1926).
“The prize they have in hand was a Westclox alarm clock, which we had for years.
“I think the goalkeeper (third from left) is John Carlin.
“I also remember the names such as Wright and Provost (or Prevost) mentioned in the past.
“Also, the person staring from the crowd (between Danny and John) is definitely Alec Cowlie from the Coldside area.”
Danny concludes: “If anyone can shed further light on this photo, please do.”
