Perth reader Allan Smart is well known in Fair City football circles having played for and managed a number of Perthshire junior outfits.
One of the clubs he turned out for was Coupar Angus, who are currently not enjoying the best of times.
However, there have been spells when they have done well, and Allan records one game when their keeper Ian Beatson had a day to remember.
“We were playing Jeanfield Swifts in Perth and were 4-0 down at the interval,” Allan recalled.
“Ian was none too pleased at what was going on in front of him and suggested he play up front in the second half with somebody else going in goal.
“That was agreed and Ian promptly went out and cracked in four goals to give us a 4-4 draw and, near the end, I missed a sitter which would have made it 5-4 for Coupar Angus.
“Ian was a very good keeper who played senior for Forfar but he wasn’t a bad striker either.”
