Blether with Brown: Jim broke leg on cold, rainy night

My former Broughty Athletic team-mate Jim Lorimer is featured in this photo from September 1972 of the Logie Secondary U/15 side.

It has been well documented before but there is no harm repeating this feat and it is that Jim, then of Menzieshill, was the first Dundee goalkeeper to play at Wembley.

He did so as part of the Scotland Schoolboys U/15 side that visited England later that season.

As team-mates at Broughty Athletic, we were convinced Jim would be with us only briefly before stepping up to the senior scene.

Unfortunately, he suffered a horrendous leg-break on a very cold and rainy midweek night at The Fed.

The last I saw Jim he was one of Tayside’s Finest in the Perthshire area.

Another noteable player in the team is Davie Dodds, who went on to star for Dundee United for many years.
