Replying to Willie Mitchell’s piece on January 17 regarding Forfar-based junior football teams, Jack Renton puts forward the case for Arbroath juniors.
“Arbroath currently has just one junior team Arbroath Vics,” said Jack, who stays in the Angus town. “I know my late grandfather used to play for a team called Arbroath Woodside and this would be around the 1930s.
“Just out of interest, has there been any other junior teams from Arbroath?”
There certainly has.
Some years before the time that Woodside played out of the seaside town, there were quite a few other junior teams.
They played under names such as Arbroath Dauntless, Arbroath Parkhead, Arbroath Ardenlea, Arbroath Fairfield, Arbroath Rovers, Arbroath Comrades and Arbroath Westburn in addition, of course, to Vics.
Arbroath Sporting Club were also playing locally around the 1970s-2005.
