Blether with Brown: Surprised that Lamb was omitted

Michael Gallacher, well-known in local football circles for his sterling service to Forfar Farmington Ladies FC, also replied after reading Danny Cameron’s tale.

“I wonder if Danny is still involved in football,” he opened.

“I attended St Vincent’s Primary School with his wee sister Tricia and I recall Danny and Derek Johnstone being the local heroes at the time as they were in the same Scotland U/15 Schoolboy squad.

“It was interesting to see him in that team photo with TV’s most annoying pundit Mark Lawrenson.”

Bruce Ralston was also interested in the Preston picture.

“I was surprised no mention was made of the Dundee connection with the lad on the extreme right of the back row,” said Bruce, a former colleague in DC Thomson and also one who gave many decades dedicated service to the Midlands AFA as match secretary.

“He is Alan Lamb, who moved from Preston North End to Port Vale, and then left Vale Park in 1978 to sign for Dundee.

“I thought he was a pretty decent player in his time at Dens and he made 27 appearances (plus two as sub) for the Dark Blues in 1978-79.”
