The following are some of the replies to BwB on the website.
Chicfaecharleston followed up Butterburn Youth Club stories.
“Probably the most well-known Butterburn Youth Club player would be John Duncan,” he offered.
“John played for Dundee and Tottenham Hotspur.
“He played in the team above me at the Burn along with Mitch Goodall and others.
“If I remember correctly, when the Dundee scout came to watch John play for the Morgan Academy school team on the Saturday morning, he scored five goals. Then, in the afternoon playing for the Burn, he scored a further 11 goals in a 19-1 win!”
Relived game
Riles replied to the November 2 tale “Junior fans scraped cash together to smash records”.
“Violet, back in 1929, were a formidable team to come against, especially with Pud Reilly as striker.
“Pud was my grandfather and he scored both goals in the 2 2 draw with Denny Hibs and also scored two in the replay.
“He attended a dinner in his honour in the 80s before he, sadly, passed away.
“He relived that game the night he died kick-for-kick.
“So, yes, Violet have to be the best junior side to come out of Dundee.
“My auntie was named after the club.”
Douglas fives
Internet reader with the pseudonym Pilot1 asked: “How`s about doing a story about the Douglas Fives?
“The fives were played on the old Douglas Primary School grounds during the summer.
“Lots of characters and lots of old scores settled!”
Ran the show
Jamie Reilly recognised the St Columba team photo on November 2.
He commented: From my old boy’s scrapbook, this team ran the show in Scotland through the age groups.
“As did St John’s HS later.”
