Gordon Reid, of Earlston Place, Carnoustie, wants to share an old newspaper cutting with BwB readers.
It was taken from The People’s Journal on Saturday, September 1, 1934, just under 80 years ago.
It’s billed as a ‘Training Night At Forthill FC’s Clubrooms’.
The Forthill team, of course, has featured in previous BwB articles.
Photocopies of the pictures stand up reasonably well but I’ve highlighted the captions below (starting top left, then clockwise).
* J Murphy receives a leg massage from trainer T Millar. J Reid is seen at the back.
* A few of the ‘heid yins’ members of the Forthill committee. Back row (from left) WM Ferrier, A Smith, DL Ellis, J Phillip and WB Young. Front row WD Neish, D Mayes (secretary), W Robertson (vice-president), J Pirnie.
* The players usually find time for a game of dominoes during Tuesday night’s training at the King Street clubrooms. The group includes (from left) W Nicoll, G Whitton, A Norrie, P Lorimer, J Murphy, J Reid, E Lawrence, G Garland, A Walker, T Millar (trainer).
* There’s such a rush for the bath on training nights that the players usually wash in pairs. Here we see Jimmy Reid and Geordie Garland removing the honest sweat.
* Forthill FC. Back row (from left) T Miller, L Burnside, J Tasker, W Nicoll, A Ross, F Russell, E Lawrence. Front row J Murphy, W McDonald, J Reid, W Lynch, P Lorimer, J Welsh.
