Janice Tracey thanked me “for the time and effort” for a recent BwB article.
I put together a piece for our October 4 issue about former Lochee Harp (1954) goalkeeper Bill Macdonald, who is her dad, and her grandson Jamie Lockhart, who, coincidentally, is also a goalkeeper.
“Jamie, the family and I think the article was perfect,” she enthused.
Praise, indeed.
However, she was able to throw up another quite astonishing coincidence from the story.
“A work colleague of Jamie’s mum was reading the article and in the photo she pointed to the man to the right of Bill Macdonald.
“He is Willie Fox and he/she said that he was her nephew Jay Coupar’s great-grandad.
“In a further twist, Jay and Jamie play together at Fairmuir Football Club U/11 . . . what a small world.
“So, on goes ‘Blether with Harp’ as you recently put it.”
Tam Bell came in with much the same tale.
He offered: “My grandson Jay Coupar also plays with Fairmuir U/11 and signed for them just one week before Jamie.
“They have become firm friends.
“Jamie is, indeed, a natural goalie and the night before the story appeared in BwB, their team were playing in a friendly with Jamie against their U/13 side.
“In this game, Jamie made a wonder save, reminiscent of Gordon Banks in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico against Brazil when he saved Pele’s header.
“Jay has just been selected to represent Dundee Primary Schoolboys.
“Keep up the good work.”
