Lochee’s Kenneth Brannan says he has enjoyed reading BwB for many years and has made several contributions to this column over the years.
Another BwB reader who has sent in articles over a long period of time is Rob Boag, who lives in Canada.
And it was the latest one from Rob which prompted Kenneth to take to his keyboard again.
Kenneth, who lives in Lochee, Dundee, said: “I was particularly interested in Rob’s contribution on October 4.
He made a mention of lads who used to play for the Lawrence Street football side many years ago (first spouted by Frank Jordan).
“I was very interested mainly because he mentioned brothers Albert and Jackie Brannan.
“Jackie was my father and he died in 2000.
“I was told by many people that he was a very good footballer in his day.
“However, even my father admitted that my Uncle Albert was an even better player.
“My earliest memories are of being part of a very big and close extended Brannan family.
“Nearly every Sunday of my entire childhood, I would be visiting my granny and auntie who lived next door to each other in flats on the first floor of 8 Cleghorn Street, Dundee.
“They later shared a council flat just around the corner in Benvie Road.
“During many of my visits to them, I often heard stories from ‘the old days’ and, in particular, about the football exploits of my father and all of his brothers.
“There were also stories about some of the fun and capers they and their friends known as ‘The Boys From The Burn’ got up to.”
