Blether with Brown: Was Rob one of the ‘Boys from the Burn’?

“Rob Boag’s name cropped up many times in my family’s conversations,” continued Kenneth Brannan.

“Although I have no recollection of ever having met Rob, it was clear to me that he was very highly thought of by the Brannans of my father and Uncle Albert’s generation.

“As a result of reading BwB, I often wondered if Rob was one of the ‘Boys from the Burn’.

“I now realise he must be because Rob correctly stated that Albert Brannan was a tradesman with British Rail.

“I can add to that.

“Albert lived with his parents at their home in Cleghorn Street until 1961 when he was offered and accepted a post as a tradesman with British Rail in Manchester.

“He later stepped up to a supervisory position, a post he held until he retired at 61.

“Albert married around about 1965 and had three children, all of whom are now grown up.

“Albert is now a grandfather but, unfortunately, he has not enjoyed the best of health in recent years and has suffered a series of strokes leaving him unable to have a conversation.

“Albert still lives with his wife in Manchester and will celebrate his 80th birthday in December.”
