Former Brechin City footballer Bruce Alexander (bruce.alexander@hotmail.com) reckons he was involved in a wee bit of football history.
“On September 28, 1993, I was used from the bench for the first time in Scottish football, under the new ruling that you were allowed a sub goalkeeper,” said Bruce.
“It is now the 20th anniversary of that ruling.
“The game was at Love Street on a Tuesday night, and the game was St Mirren v Brechin City.
“I was playing for Brechin and came on at half-time for the injured Ray Allan.
“We lost the game 2-0 and I lost a goal in the second half.
“I was lucky enough to play 11 first-team games that season for Brechin, which was not too bad for a rookie 18-year-old.
“I made my full debut the following Saturday against Falkirk at Glebe Park, a match we drew 0-0.”
