Tele water polo correspondent Frank Jordan has been enjoying Champions League football games, and has come across a great water polo player with one of the fancied teams.
“Manuel Estiarte, an outstanding and most-capped international Spanish water polo player, now looks after the fitness of Bayern Munich, who are holders of the World Super Cup, the European Cup and champions of Germany,” observed Frank, of Dundee.
“Manuel held the same post at Barcelona before moving to Germany.
“He took part in six Olympic games and carried the Spanish flag at the Athens games in 2004.
“The strong part of his playing days was his supreme fitness.
“I’ve no doubt a number of his own ideas will be the routine for the Champions League-winning German team.
“If you are playing water polo at the top level, you’ve got to be fit.
“It’s not just one game a week, it’s quite a number of games, which includes club championships, European championships and international training.
“For those who don’t know, what saps the energy in water polo is treading water at all times.
“The games now last an hour.”
