Craig Millar, Dundee Bureau Chief with STV, responded to the article about former Tayport AFC player Bobby McMahon, now with Fox Sports World Canada.
“I knew Bobby when we were both lads in Broughty Ferry and played football in Dawson Park,” remembered Craig, a weel-kent face on our TV sets during the local STV news bulletins.
“I stayed in Gotterstone and he lived across the Arbroath Road in the Dawson Park estate.
“By the way, one of the other lads who joined us was Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross.
“He always had better prospects as a musician.
“I knew Bobby had emigrated to Canada but was intrigued to find, like myself, he was working in TV (with the Fox Soccer Channel).
“I remember playing football with Bobby for Dundee Press FC in the Sunday Morning League in the 1970s when he was a pretty nifty striker with an eye for a goal.
“At that time, when he played for Barnhill Amateurs in the Midlands AFA on a Saturday, he converted to sweeper.
“Nothing if not versatile.”
