Blether with Brown: Goalie Jamie fills gloves of Harp great-grandad Bill

This column is in danger of being renamed ‘Blether with Harp’, such has been the dominance in recent months of the Beechwood Park club on this page.

However, I can’t ignore that the attraction of this grand old club is vast and always provokes interest, response and requests.

One of the latest to get in touch is Janice Tracey.

“I was wondering if you could help me find a picture of my dad, William ‘Bill’ Macdonald, and any information about him,” she opened.

“I think a picture was in one of the local papers when he played in goal for Lochee Harp and it was of him saving a goal. I think it was a Glasgow team they were playing against.

“The caption read ‘It’s mine’ as far as I can remember.

“At that time, his team-mates included Joe McMahon, Laurie Blyth and Sid Pacione.

“Dad played for Harp around 1954 after we all moved from Newtongrange, near Edinburgh, where dad was an electrician in the coal mines.

“I am trying to put together information for my grandson, Jamie Lockhart, who has just been signed for Fairmuir Boys as a goalkeeper.

“He is just 11-years-old and we have been told he is a natural.

“Naturally, I think he’s a fantastic goalie but I’m allowed to as I’m his grandma!

“Jamie has been wanting to play in goal since he started school aged five.

“He has been coached at Derek Soutar’s goalkeeping classes for a few years now and Derek has brought him on leaps and bounds.”

I can’t locate the action photo Janice described above.
