Blether with Brown: Bob Griffin honoured by Midlands

A BwB reader, known only as Bill, urged the Midlands AFA to remember and honour former NCR AFC stalwart Bob Griffin, who recently passed away.

Ally Martin was quick to remind me that the association already have.

“On June 10, 1999, the MAFA did make a presentation to Bob,” said Ally, honorary secretary of the association.

“Bob was given an engraved whisky decanter to commemorate his retiral from the NCR committee after 51 years’ service.”

Poured tea at half-time

That same article tickled Avril Easton as one of the other names mentioned by Bill was her dad.

“When Bill from Johannesburg mentioned my dad Colin Easton, what a lift that gave me.

“I read BwB every week as it is always a blast from the past!

“I have such fond memories of the NCR days.

“My dad took me to all the matches and I used to help pour the tea from flasks at half-time for those brilliant players.

“Oh, such great memories.

“My beloved dad passed away five years ago.

“Oh to bring back if we could the oldies… they were the best.

“Thank you, Bill, for remembering my dad.”
