There were a couple of comments left on the Evening Telegraph website regarding Ian Ure’s firm assertion that Dundee could and should have won the European Cup in 1963 (BwB, Aug 16).
Responding, ‘Old Glory’ wrote: “At the AC Milan game, I remember someone in the enclosure no doubt irate at the Italians’ crude tackling threw a piece of orange peel, which caught a Milan player on the knee.
“Poleaxed, the Milan player writhed about on the ground feigning serious injury.
“Even his own team-mates could scarcely hide their amusement.
“Still, Milan had the last laugh as they went through.”
‘Dode’ also replied: “I watched every Dundee home game in the European Cup in 1962-63, as well as all of their home league games.
“The Dark Blues were magnificent in the European Cup, especially in the 8-1 drubbing of Cologne.
“I think that, if they had got to Wembley, Dundee would have been the first British winners of the European Cup.”
Just to refresh my own memory. . . Slater; Hamilton, Cox; Seith, Ure, Wishart; Smith, Penman, Cousin, Gilzean, Robertson.
Have I missed anyone, apart from Pat Liney?
Alex Stuart and Doug Houston came in for a couple of games when Bobby Cox and Hugh Robertson were injured.
