First of the retired Morgan Academy teacher’s list was the venue where Forthill Athletic played their home games (June 28). “It was never really called Station Park and was always referred to as ‘The Common’,” said Bob, of Barnhill. “It was situated in the Ardmore/Navarre/North Balmossie Street area of Barnhill and was a clearing surrounded by gorse. “It was big enough, however, for a football pitch and also to play schoolboy cricket games. “In 1960, a company called Hills of Brechin built houses on it. “And, for the record, the Broughty Ex-Service team played their home games at Castle Green before moving to Claypotts and becoming Broughty Athletic.” Ally Martin, Colin Moir, Jim Ferrier and James Milne also gave details of the Station Park location and its popular name of ‘The Common’. Laurie Neilson also gave input on this and, in addition, supplied other photos of Forthill Athletic which I’ll share in the coming weeks.
