Blether with Brown: Two Monifieth lads in great Harp team

Bob Blyth’s next subject was the Lochee Harp team featured on May 31, featuring goalscorer supreme Davie Forbes.

“Two lads from Monifieth played in that great Harp team,” revealed Bob.

“The right-winger was Alec Ferguson and the goalkeeper was Fred Lawrence.

“Fred was also a very low handicap golfer for a long time.

“He worked as foreman in the machine shop at James F Low Textiles in the town, which was situated where Tesco is now.

“Another interesting point is the jerseys Harp were wearing in your photo, with the Harp logo.

“Some years later, these strips were given to Monifieth Tayside, and I’ve a feeling a prominent Dundee publican called Sam Irvine had a hand in this.”
