Blether with Brown: Always a smile on Alec’s face

The third and final point from Bob Blyth concerns one of his former pupils.

“Alec Bruce, who featured on July 5, was captain of the Morgan Academy U/15 team, which I ran,” said Bob.

“It was interesting to see the photo of Alec smiling in your column because that is exactly how he played football… always with a smile on his face.

“Alec was the catalyst of the team and brought out the best in his team-mates.

“We were then in the same division as the great Lawside Academy team of that time which won the Scottish Cup.

“However, we beat them 8-4 in a league game with Billy Gibson scoring four.”
