Peter Reid, of Victoria Road, Dundee, spent his youth football days with Butterburn Youth Club.
“Guys I remember being in charge at the time were Sandy Davidson, Dave McHardy and Baxter Mitchell,” said Peter.
“Indeed, five of the team went senior.
“Chic Henderson signed for Motherwell, and Mike Gilchrist went to Cardiff City.
“Frank McGarry started off at Arbroath before joining Dundee and then Forfar.
“Gerry Mitchell went to Glebe Park to play for Brechin City.
“Jackie Martin signed for Sheffield Wednesday and there’s a little tale about his name.
“Just recently, I was watching the movie United, which was about Manchester United’s air crash in Munich.
“One scene showed a game they played back in England just after the crash.
“The scene was of the Manchester United manager in the dugout looking at the match programme.
“The space where United’s team names should have been was blank as they obvioulsy didn’t know who would be turning out for them that day.
“But Sheffield Wednesday’s team was listed in full in the programme and I caught a glimpse of Jackie Martin’s name.”
