Blether with Brown: Sadly missed

Dave Watson, from Toronto, Canada, was sad to hear about Bob Griffin’s passing.

“Bob was related on my wife’s side and we had many a laugh together over a few pints talking about fitba,” recalled Dave.

“In the year NCR won the Scottish Amateur Cup, Lochee Renton won the Scottish Juvenile Cup.

“That left us Butterburn YC to make it a treble by winning the Scottish U/18 Cup. However, we lost to Drumchapel.

“I still think about that final to this day.

“Later that year, Butterburn U/18 actually met The Cash, who were playing under some Lochee pub’s name, in the, North End Fives Final.

“As the game was going on, all I hear is . . . ‘Come on The Cash, beat that Burn’.

“It was very loud and when I looked at the opposing touchline, it was Bob.

“We lost that particular final by a corner. I didn’t talk to him for a week but soon got over it.

“Bob was a good man and will be sadly missed.”
