The reason Andy Walker hasn’t featured of late is that he has been moving house.
However, all settled now, he is back with several contributions.
“I was sitting with some icons of Dundee Junior football of bygone days and the talk was about goalscorers in junior football,” was Andy’s first contribution.
“In today’s football at all levels, the thirst for information about who done what is at the fingertips of the statistician. In the old days, the only proof was the referee and, even then, the sports reporter would print another name of who scored.
“This would cause monumental uproar between players, teams and officials.
“Sitting among us was David Forbes Jr, son of the Dundee North End and Lochee Harp stalwart of the 1920s and 30s.
“He said that his father, in 1928, was awarded a gold watch for scoring a 100 goals in season 1927-28 while with North End.
“By the time he was awarded the watch, he had scored many more, so his exact total for the season was never recorded.
“The watch, which is still a coveted family heirloom, is pictured.
“How many strikers of yesteryear did the magic ‘ton’ and would love to prove it.”
