The imagination of the children of Courier country knows no bounds!
The Courier intended this competition to highlight our communities’ appreciation of the brave NHS and care staff who help to keep us safe, and also to give children cooped up in lockdown something fun to do.
We were overwhelmed by the response.
The talent of our school pupils was a revelation to us. The quality of the writing and the standard of the drawings exceeded all our expectations.
The theme for primary school entrants was superheroes. Pupils were asked to describe their ideal care superhero and their powers, and draw a picture of them too.
For secondary school students, the theme was Real Life Heroes. They sent us an original story about a care hero from their family, friends, local community or someone else who they admire for their capacity to care for others. The result was a snapshot of Courier Country during extraordinary times.
We learned many things from all the entries we received. We learned how much children are missing their grandparents during the lockdown. We learned that our children understand the seriousness of the pandemic, and what they can do to prevent it spreading. We learned how much they appreciate the NHS and care staff, and how well they understand kindness.
It wasn’t easy for us to choose the top five from each category, but here they are.
