This week may have started with Blue Monday, but things are definitely looking up for one lucky reader of The Courier.
On Tuesday, we made Sarah Dow’s day when we revealed she had won our 2019 competition, in which we offered one reader a prize of £2,019 to celebrate the new year.
The Courier visited Sarah at her Scone home to present her with the cheque.
She said she cried tears of joy when she answered the phone to receive the good news.
She said: “I was shocked – it was fabulous. What a way to start the year. I hope this is the start of my luck now.”
More than 1,200 readers from across Perth and Kinross, Dundee, Angus and Fife entered the competition, but it was Sarah, who is originally from Aberdeen, whose name was drawn from the hat.
She has been a Courier reader for many years since moving to Perth and then Scone around 38 years ago.
The team manager from Tulloch Co-op in Perth has won a few dictionaries in The Courier crossword puzzles in the past, but admitted she’d never scored a victory on this scale.
And it may only be a matter of hours since we broke the news, but Sarah already knows where her winnings will be spent – she is heading to the Canary Islands with her loved ones in a few months’ time for a well-earned break.
She said: “We have a family holiday booked for this Easter.
“We’re heading off to Tenerife and it will be our family and another family that we go with.
“There’s going to be 11 of us flying out altogether, so it’s going to be just like The Broons.”
And despite her good fortune, Sarah says she doesn’t intend to stop entering our competitions.
