Is your child’s school one of the 10% that’s full across Tayside and Fife? Use our searchable table to check

Figures from the Scottish Government, published yesterday, show that around 10% of all state schools in Angus, Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Fife are full by 95% or more.
Figures from the Scottish Government, published yesterday, show that around 10% of all state schools in Angus, Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Fife are full by 95% or more.

Around 10% of all schools in Tayside and Fife are either close to or over capacity.

Figures from the Scottish Government, published on September 7, show that one in 10 of all state schools in Angus, Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Fife are at 95% capacity or more.

Of these, 14 are more than 100% full as of September last year.

We’ve created a table so you can check how many pupils are at your local primary and secondary school and how full the school is.

Use our table to check how full your child’s school is:

Fife comes out on top

Of the top ten most populated schools in Tayside and Fife, seven are in the Kingdom. Five of these are primary schools and the other two are secondary schools – both in Kirkcaldy.

The Fife schools in the top ten are:

  • Wormit Primary School – 125% full
  • Viewforth High School – 122% full
  • Pitreavie Primary School – 110% full
  • Capshard Primary School – 106% full
  • Strathkinness Primary School – 105% full
  • Duloch Schools and Community Campus – 105% full
  • Balwearie High School – 102% full

Rosebank Primary School and St Peter & Paul RC Primary School, both in Dundee, and Monifieth High School, in Angus, make up the rest of the top ten.

Which are the most populated schools in Tayside?

The Scottish Government figures show that the most populated school in Angus is Monifieth High School, which is at 102% capacity.

The current building, which first opened in 1979, is rated ‘C’ – poor – for suitability and is due to be replaced by October 2025.

The new campus – which the council decided to press ahead with in June despite soaring costs – is expected to cost in the region of £56 million.

Edzell Primary School, in Brechin, is the most populated primary school in the region. As of September 2021, it was 100% full.

In Dundee, Rosebank Primary School is the most populated. It is currently operating at 123% capacity,

A report which went before the city council’s children and family services committee earlier this year said 45% of its pupils live outside catchment area.

The most populated secondary school in the City of Discovery is Harris Academy, which is at 102% capacity.

The current Harris building only opened in 2016, however an extension to provide six extra classrooms, a staff base and a deputy head teacher’s office is planned.

This would boost the school’s capacity by nearly 200 pupils.

St John’s RC Academy in Perth is the region’s most populated school. As of September 2021, it is at 98% capacity.

This is followed by Oakbank Primary School, also in Perth, which is at 93% capacity.
