St Andrews University has provided staff at Gibson House Care Home in the town with a supply of personal protection equipment (PPE) to help maintain a safe working environment during the COVID-19 crisis.
The equipment – gloves, aprons, hairnets and face masks – was gathered from schools and departments across the University and held at the Willie Russell Laboratories and delivered to Gibson House by Saints Sport volunteers Ali Smith and Ailsa Gow.
Gibson House assistant manager Kimberley Rogers said: “We cannot express how much this delivery means to us to assist us in maintaining safe working environments for both staff and the residents we care for within the home.”
The operation was a team effort co-ordinated by Louise Soutar, project officer and the University’s NHS co-ordinator during the Covid-19 crisis; Professor Prof Terry Smith, director of the Biomedical Sciences Research Complex; Stephen Stewart, director of sport; and Professor Stephen Gethins, who is heading up the COVID-19 community response team.
