Dundee’s history will come to life through music next week.
A special performance of the city’s musical past will be held as part of an ongoing oral history project coordinated by University of Dundee archivists to collate stories and personal insights of people from across Dundee.
The concert will feature songs from Sheena Wellington, a performance from Alice Marra and her youth community choir, and tunes from Craig Weir, pipe sergeant from Arbroath Legion Pipe Band.
Ged Grimes, founder member of Danny Wilson and now of Simple Minds, and Alistair ‘Breeks’ Brodie, of the music store Groucho’s, are among those who have contributed to the project entitled ‘Musical roots: memories & music in Dundee’.
Jan Merchant, from the University Archives said: “We have a jam-packed evening planned for a great celebration of the city through its oral and musical history.
“Alongside an opportunity to hear history come alive, attendees can browse through the archive’s music-related collections.”
The event begins at 6:30pm on Thursday in the university’s Tower Building, and booking is advised.
