Dundee’s status as a UNESCO City of Design will be reinforced next month when it hosts a major conference on Scottish crafts.
Organised by Craft Scotland, the national agency for crafts, the event will bring together makers, curators and industry specialists.
The event was last held in Dundee three years and Craft Scotland director Fiona Logue said: “We are delighted to be returning to Dundee for the annual Craft Scotland conference in 2016.
“The UNESCO City of Design is the ideal place to bring together all those involved in or interested in contemporary craft and design and to hear stories and see examples of inspiring and innovative practice.”
This year’s conference, at Dundee University’s Dalhousie Building, will focus on the themes suggested by Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.
Keynote speaker will be world-famous designer and inventor Dominic Wilcox.
Other speakers at the day-long event include Arthouse Meath founder Becky Sheraidah and fashion designer Emily Millichip.
Jim Clarkson, regional director of VisitScotland, said: “As the UK’s first UNESCO City of Design, Dundee is the perfect choice to host this year’s Craft conference.
“With the fantastic line-up of speakers and workshops on offer, the conference is sure to be an inspiring day for all.
“From textiles to technology, architecture to fashion and design, the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design is shining the spotlight on our greatest assets and icons, as well as our hidden gems.”
Leah Black, creative industries officer (crafts) at Creative Scotland added: “The Craft Scotland Conference is now an annual highlight in the calendars of those interested in craft, making, design, and everything in between.
“The conference is an important part of Craft Scotland’s annual programme supported by Creative Scotland and we look forward to this year’s edition in Dundee.”
This year’s event will be curated by designer Kristi Vana.
