Dundee’s Labour Party insist members have voted overwhelmingly to call a truce on an internal warfare dogging the group.
Controversy over the future of certain candidates has dominated debate in the party in recent weeks.
Councillors Tom Ferguson and Mohammed Asif were both put forward for deselection by the local Labour authority, meaning neither would have been able to run as Labour candidates at next year’s election.
Both men successfully appealed the deselection decision — a move which has apparently angered several Dundee Labour party members, according to a source.
The appeal was approved by Scottish Labour’s Executive Committee (SEC) at a recently held meeting.
But a Labour source has now told The Courier the local party is determined to “draw a line under the situation and get back to knocking on doors”.
Despite a challenge to the party’s chair, it is claimed “the overwhelming majority” of members agreed to press ahead with the previously agreed number of 10 local candidates.
