The Bike Station is a charitable company with bases in Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Their core business is recycling bikes then selling them on to at extremely attractive prices. Renovating and recycling so many bikes, it’s no surprise then that they have a vast experience in bike maintenance and in the shops they are keen to share that expertise through maintenance classes and availability of workshop space.

If you live further afield from their main premises then don’t worry – they also have a Dr Bike service that can be hired to visit schools, community groups and event organisers and provide peripatetic bicycle servicing straight to your door.

A fully trained mechanic will come to your event with a van packed full of tools, lubricants and small spare parts to help you keep you pedalling. This service is hugely popular at events and schools and many workplaces with a Bike to Work scheme. The service attracts a wide clientele with a mixture of cyclists who ride a lot but have minimum experience in maintenance to those who don’t cycle much, but are tempted to cycle into work or school for the day just to get their bike serviced.

Each bike receives a 20 point check and, where appropriate, new parts are fitted. Issues that can’t be fixed on the day are highlighted on a bike MOT form that is given to the rider so they know what additional work is required. At the very least you can go away with your tyres pumped up and chain lubed.

Perth Bike Station will be visiting Dundee over the coming weeks with a number of different sessions being held in the City centre at the Caird Hall and at Abertay University (see below for more details). At Abertay University the Bike Station will also have a selection of their reconditioned bikes available for sale too.

If you have set yourself New Year’s resolutions to get fit then this then cycling is an ideal way to do it. If you have a bike languishing at the back of the shed and you want to get it checked before riding then this is an ideal opportunity, or if you don’t have a bike then pop along to Abertay to grab a bargain and get pedalling in 2017.

Don’t forget, you can join the Blazing Saddles Strava club at:
