Dundee University has launched an investigation amid claims a female student was sexually harassed on campus.
The teenager said a group of male students, who are believed to have been out drinking prior to the incident, approached her on Wednesday night and began shouting obscene comments.
It comes just days after shock figures on under-reported instances of sexual harassment in Scottish universities revealed Dundee University has logged just five since 2011.
A spokesman for the institution said they were “extremely concerned” by the recent allegation and vowed to take the matter “very seriously”.
The student, who asked not be named, claims she was confronted by the group near Heathfield halls of residence while walking towards the campus library.
She said: “Some of them recognised me from where I work.
“They were shouting at me and asking if I would give them shots from undesirable places and they said I must be a stripper as well.
“I’ve come to accept it as part of the territory but a lot of people would have been really intimidated to have a group of guys shouting at them like that.”
The student, who moved from elsewhere in the country to study at the institution, said such incidents are happening on a weekly basis.
She added: “I think it’s more or less part of the culture – if you went to any big night out, you would see it happening multiple times.

“We have two security guards who walk around but when it’s happening that often, I don’t know how you can police it.”
Sean O’Connor, president of Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA), said the body has a zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment and said any such reports would be taken “very seriously”.
He added: “We are actively campaigning to encourage students to come forward to us with allegations of this nature so that, together, we can stamp out harassment in all of its forms.”
A spokesman for Dundee University said: “CCTV cameras are sited throughout the campus and security patrols also take place to ensure the safety of students at all times.
“We are never complacent about safety and would encourage anyone who has any concerns to contact us so we can take appropriate action.”
