More than 1100 students will collect their degrees in Dundee during the next fortnight.
Over 900 Dundee University students from around the world will fill the Caird Hall during tomorrow and Friday for the university’s winter graduation ceremony.
Two hundred and thirty students from Abertay University will then collect their own degrees on Friday November 24.
Among those graduating from Dundee University are mum and daughter pairing Kerry Perrie, 46, and Robyn Watson, 27.
The pair will graduate with nursing degrees after studying together for three years at the university’s Kirkcaldy campus.
They will also be celebrating the fact both have secured jobs at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
Kerry has taken up a position within acute admissions and Robyn is now working in the infectious diseases unit.
Proud mum, Kerry, said: “On our very first day we said to our tutor they had to make sure we were in different classes.
“She (Robyn) used to say I was the class mum. There’s been many a time she’s had a tantrum because she claimed I helped everyone except for her.
“But I always said she’d thank me for it one day.”
Robyn said: “I didn’t want anyone thinking I got it handed to me. But she was always there for me. We would study together and help each other out.”
At Abertay, inspirational paralympic athlete Karen Darke MBE will receive an honorary degree.
Karen is a member of the British paracycling team with an outstanding record of personal achievement.
A paralympic and paratriathlon world champion, Karen has taken a host of medals in her career, including gold for Great Britain in the hand-cycling time trials at the Rio Paralympics last year.
A keen runner and mountaineer before becoming paralysed in a rock-climbing accident, Karen now takes part in canoeing and sit-skiing, as well as hand-cycling.
Students will graduate from across Abertay’s four academic schools of design and informatics (formerly arts, media and computer games), social and health sciences, science engineering and technology and Dundee business school.
The ceremony will also see the first cohort of students on Abertay’s accelerated degree programmes graduate, entering the jobs market months ahead of their peers.
Principal Nigel Seaton said Karen’s dedication to her sport and will to succeed made her an excellent role model for students.
