Two Dundee academics staged a Brexit rematch, watched by around 300 school pupils.
Dr Stuart Waiton and Dr Wallace McNeish first locked horns on the thorny issue a year ago, and returned to the debating stage at Abertay University to examine where the UK now stands after months of negotiation with EU counterparts.
Dr Waiton argued the case that ‘Brexit means a better democracy and a better Britain’ while opponent Dr McNeish presented against the motion.
Despite Dr Waiton’s best efforts, the audience of young Modern Studies pupils from across Dundee sided heavily with Dr McNeish’s view that Brexit is bad for Britain.
The lecturers are part of Abertay’s sociology department and put forward their real life opinions.
Dr Jason Annetts, head of the sociology division, chaired the debate.
He said: “This annual debate is a great way to engage young people in political discussion about the key issues affecting society today.
‘Maintaining political citizenship should be part of any healthy democracy and that’s why we have to ensure future generations stay involved and interested.”
