A Dundee student is to embark on a coastal trek to raise money for a family who have been made homeless in South America.
Daniel Angelosanto is an active fundraiser with a number of groups at Dundee University.
The anatomical sciences student will set off on his epic 1,244 mile journey – a walk from Lands End in Cornwall to John O Groats in Caithness – on Monday.
Travelling solely by foot, he will traverse the western coast of the UK, raising funds for a woman in Guyana and her daughter who have recently been made homeless.
Stacia is described by Daniel as his “rock”, who was there for him when he lived in the South American country. They formed such a bond in his time in the English-speaking country he was named as her daughter’s Godfather.
The young family are being made homeless and need £6,000 to access a Guyana-government housing scheme, described by Daniel as the equivalent of a lottery jackpot for an average family living in the country.
He said: “For the next three months I’ll be making my way up to John O’Groats on foot.
“The journey is 1,244 miles and is in aid of a dear friend in crisis. Stacia and her daughter, my goddaughter, are about to become homeless and I want to raise some money to help them buy a house in Guyana.
“We’ve already raised over £1500 in just two weeks but we’ve still a long way to go.
“When I was working in Guyana, Stacia was my rock. She was always there when I needed help ,which was a lot, and she could never give too much. She is truly a selfless woman.
“There is a light at the end of the tunnel for her, I hope. The Guyanese government has offered her a loan to buy into a government housing scheme where she can have some security and a proper home for her family.
“Unfortunately she has to cover 20% of the loan before she is eligible, about £6000 – in Guyana terms that is pretty much the Euro Millions jackpot.
“I love my friend and I know I’m in a good position to do something amazing for her. I know she would do the same for me”
Daniel has already raised £1,500 for his cause and hopes by enduring the entire journey on foot, he can find enough sponsorship to cover Stacia’s loan.
