Police say they have handed investigations over to St Andrews University after establishing there was no foul play leading up to Sunday night’s major blaze in a research building.
Fire crews raced to the scene on Sunday evening after the blaze broke out in a 20-year-old building at North Haugh.
There are fears years worth of research may have been lost.
In an update this afternoon, Fife Police says its formal invovlement is over.
A statement said: “This has been established by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and police as accidental.
“Thankfully, no one was injured and students, staff and locals are thanked for their cooperation with emergency services. No further police action is required and the matter has been referred to the university.”
