A Dundee university has scooped more than £75,000 to fund a two-year project to delve into local history as part of the institution’s 25th anniversary.
Abertay University has been awarded the money through a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant.
It will use the money to support a project called Abertay 25: Dundee’s Changemakers – Our Contribution to Technology and Industry.
Volunteer researchers will be recruited to work with up to 120 young ambassadors from secondary schools with the aim of uncovering 25 key innovations and 25 key change-makers from Abertay’s history.
The scheme will cover the 25 years since Abertay gained university status in 1994 and it will also dig deep into its predecessors including the Dundee Technical Institute from 1888.
The public are also to be given the chance to vote on a favourite innovation or change-maker once a short-list has been selected.
University archivist Ruaraidh Wishart said: “We’re especially excited to hear the stories that the young ambassadors will uncover in the collections and look forward to helping them tell these in exciting ways.”
“There will also be a memory exchange for people to share experiences of the university and the archive content will be uploaded to the university website and turned into learning pack for schools.”
