St Andrews University principal and vice-chancellor Professor Sally Mapstone has been awarded an honorary degree from Aberdeen University.
Professor Mapstone was given the honour in recognition of her widening access work for universities across Scotland.
She was conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Letters also in recognition of her distinguished contribution to the field of older Scots literature and for her outstanding record of leadership in higher education.
Professor Mapstone, who is also a trustee of UCAS, then gave the address at Aberdeen University’s morning graduation ceremony on Monday congratulating the new graduates on their achievements.
Describing Aberdeen University as a “distinguished, historic, and forward-thinking institution” she urged them to “create the next chapter” of “this great university”.
