St Johnstone star Liam Craig took part in the club’s first school visit in months as the Perth team resumes its community engagement work.
The club ran a virtual session with pupils at Our Lady’s Primary School in Perth, ahead of the announcement of a new programme that will involve first team players engaging virtually with local schools during the pandemic.
Midfielder Liam, who is the club’s all-time second highest appearance holder, talked to the youngsters about his career as a professional footballer and the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.
He also spoke about his love of reading autobiographies from fellow professional sportspeople as part of the country-wide Book Week Scotland campaign.
The club is planning further school visits in the coming weeks in partnership with its community partners, Aviva, alongside the Saints in the Community Trust.
Liam said: “I was delighted to be the one to kick off the club’s virtual school visit programme this season and it was great to speak to children one on one and make their afternoon a little bit different.
“Communications with supporters and the local community during a pandemic is obviously very challenging but as a club we are adapting as best as we can and I think virtual school visits are a great way to keep that engagement going.
“I had a lot of fun speaking to pupils. It’s important as footballers that we can be role models to young people in promoting the benefits of regular exercise, having an active lifestyle, and the importance and fun of reading.”
