Around a third of Scotland’s pupils are now attending school, following the return of the youngest children and a few senior students last week.
Across Scotland just over 30% of pupils were in schools last Tuesday, the second day of nursery and P1 to P3 pupils being welcomed back.
A small number of senior pupils were also permitted to attend from February 22 to complete essential practical coursework.
On February 23, 47.3% of primary school pupils attended and 8.4% of secondary school pupils.
Two weeks earlier – when all but children of key workers and vulnerable children were learning from home – just 9.3% of pupils were in the country’s primary, secondary and special schools.
We took a closer look at the figures for schools in Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth and Kinross council areas.
Tayside and Fife schools
Last Tuesday 33.5% of Angus pupils were back in school, compared to 6.5% a fortnight earlier.
The region’s primary schools had 51.9% of their rolls back and 9.9% of secondary school pupils attended.
In Dundee 54% of primary school children were in class on February 23, and 12% of S1 to S6 pupils.
Attendance in the city’s special schools was 61.2%.
Fife’s primary schools had 45% of their pupils back, and 6.3% of secondary pupils.
Special schools in the kingdom had 91.1% of pupils in attendance.
Primary schools in Perthshire and Kinross were at 48.7% attendance last Tuesday, and secondary schools at 9%. Data was unavailable for special schools for the same date.
The figures include those children who have been in school since the start of term in January.
When will other pupils return?
It is hoped all primary school pupils will be able to go back to class from March 15 in the second phase of the school return, as well as some more secondary pupils at least for part of their education.
The final phase is intended to begin on April 5, but due to Easter holidays this would mean those pupils returning on April 12 in Fife and April 19 in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross schools.
More detail about the second phase is expected when the First Minister delivers her Covid statement in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon.
