Over a third of parents says they have been banned from taking photographs of their children in this year’s nativity play, research has revealed.
A survey conducted by FamiliesOnline found that 38% of parents reported being banned this year with 70% expressing disapproval at being denied the right during special ‘one-off’ nativity performances.
A further 66% also believed that placing a blanket ban on photography for Christmas plays was a step too far.
Across the country there has been an increase in schools placing tighter measures on photography at all times of the year.
FamiliesOnline said that — contradictory to now — the vast majority of people 10 years ago did not see photography as an issue.
They added that the possibility of ill intent now overshadows the taking of every mobile phone snap and camera click.
The survey reveals a trend of deteriorating trust among schools despite the popularity of social media and the common practice of posting photos to the web.
Despite this, 57% of parents disagreed with the banning of taking photos at nativity plays due to security reasons, with 43% agreeing that it was a sensible measure.
