A Perthshire school for children with additional support needs is set to reopen on Monday after its sudden closure.

Butterstone School near Dunkeld shut suddenly last November, with parents only given four days notice.

However, the school has now been bought over by a Bathgate-based firm Moore House Care and Education and is set to open at the beginning of this week.

The school will reopen during the day, with plans to reopen the residential section hoped to be completed at the end of the year.

CEO Anne Gibson said: “This is really good news, especially for us to get registered so quickly.

“We know that relationships mean everything and the pupils had already established really positive ones with the staff. That’s why we’ve employed most of them back with some additional new management.

“Tracey Ford-McNicol will be coming in from Fife College as the new head of the school. She has a lot of experience with working with children with additional support needs and will help with the transition back.

“There are 12 pupils starting on Monday, ten from Perth and Kinross, and one from Dundee and Angus. We’ve established a very good working relationship with the council.

“We’ve met with the parents throughout our preparations and we’re having a barbecue today for families to come and meet the staff and ease back in.

“We’re really excited to be reopening on Monday.”
