Forget Simon Cowell, it’s the turn of Courier readers to help find a star of the future. One of the highlights of Glamis Prom on August 25 will be the performance by the talented winner of the recent Search for a Star competition.
Organisers of the star-studded event invited local people to send in their audition clips and now the list of applicants has been whittled down to just four sensational singers, all hoping to win a once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform at Glamis Prom.
This year’s theme is the Great British Songbook and celebrity singers include Kerry Ellis, Tom Urie, Saskia Eng and Norman Bowman.
The four talented finalists of the Search for a Star competition are Matthew Tosh, Eilidh Robertson, Zoe Heggie and Tia Wilson.
Below, you can watch their audition videos and then vote for your favourite act – the outstanding performance that deserves the spotlight at Glamis Prom, one of the region’s most glamorous events.
Eilidh Roberston Laidlaw
Seventeen-year-old Eilidh Robertson Laidlaw, a pupil at the Community School of Auchterarder, reveals she’s “ecstatic” to be chosen. “I’m nervous too of course but I’m over the moon!” she beams.
Zoe Heggie
Zoe Heggie, 19, is from Dundee and is studying musical theatre in Glasgow. “I’m so excited, I never thought I would get shortlisted,” she enthuses. “I’m just so happy and the prom is going to be an amazing experience.”
Tia Wilson
Sixteen-year-old Tia Wilson has just gone into fifth year at Morgan Academy and lives in the Maryfield area of Dundee.
“I am overwhelmed about being shortlisted for the Glamis Prom,” she says. “I would love to sing there. My gran saw the competition in The Courier and I decided to send in a video. Obviously I hoped I would be considered but never thought I’d be shortlisted. Fingers crossed!”
Matthew Tosh
Matthew Tosh from Aberdeen has just turned 18 and left school and will start at Aberdeen college next month studying music. He volunteers and works with Class Act drama helping children with drama and music skills and also plays piano. He says: “To be honest my mum put this video in so it’s a complete shock to find out I’m entered, let alone shortlisted!”
Last year’s winner, 13-year-old Erin Paterson, recalls her starring moment on stage.
“It was an awesome experience,” she smiles. “Before the Prom, I’d never had any singing lessons but my mum and dad are both musicians so being musical runs in the family.”
Now, time to cast your vote…
Voting closes on Wednesday, July 25 at 10am.
