Beyonce, Drake and Justin Bieber are in the running to win at the 21st anniversary edition of the Mobo Awards.
Hosted by Melvin Odoom and his Kiss Breakfast Show co-host Rickie Haywood Williams, the ceremony will take place in Glasgow’s SSE Hydro in what will be the event’s fourth time in the city.
London, Liverpool and Leeds have also hosted the event, which has been attended by more than 100,000 music fans since it was established by Kanya King in 1996.
The Mobo (Music of Black Origin) Awards celebrate and honour stars of any ethnicity who create and perform black music. Performers at this year’s event include Craig David, Laura Mvula, Clean Bandit and Chase & Status.
Grime music star Kano and soul singer Laura Mvula are leading the pack for nominations with four nods each. Kano and Mvula are both previous winners at the Mobos – the rapper took home the newcomer gong in 2005 and Mvula was named best female and best R&B/soul act in 2013.
Fresh from his Mercury Prize win, Skepta has picked up nominations for best male, best grime act and best album for Konnichiwa.
Skepta and Kano will face AJ Tracey, Chip and Stormzy in the grime category.
Garage superstar Craig David, who was first recognised at the Mobos when he clinched the best newcomer trophy in 2000, is continuing with his triumphant return to music by earning nods for best male and best song, for When The Bassline Drops.
Beyonce, Drake, Bieber, Kanye West and Rihanna are among the world’s biggest acts short-listed for the best international act gong. This year’s Paving The Way award will be given to songwriter and producer Ms Dynamite and Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams.
The award is designed to celebrate individuals in any field “punching above their weight” and who are creating a path for others to follow. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ITV2.
