Rewind Scotland 2017: Top acts revealed

Rewind Scotland is back at Scone Palace in July.
Rewind Scotland is back at Scone Palace in July.

Neon tutus, mullets and leg warmers at the ready – Rewind Scotland, the 80s festival, is returning to Perth by popular demand.

It will be the seventh time the extravaganza has taken place at Scone Palace.
And, as with the previous festivals, organisers are wheeling out the creme de la creme of classic 80s pop music.

This year’s headline performances include pop pioneers The Human League and Billy Ocean.

Jason Donovan, Level 42, Belinda Carlisle, Heather Small and Nik Kershaw will also wow fans over the two-day festival.

But the big names don’t stop there!

Go West, Chesney Hawkes, T’Pau, The Real Thing, Soul II Soul, Kim Wilde, Nick Heyward, Dr & The Medics and Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory are also down to play at what’s become the biggest party of the summer.

Making their Rewind Scotland debuts will be The Undertones, The Trevor Horn Band (+special guest), Junior Marvin’s Wailers, Musical Youth and Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. Jaki Graham and Scotland’s Tom Robinson.

And Joy Division’s Peter Hook, Owen Paul, Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and Claudia Brucken will appear with super-group British Electric Foundation.

Flame-haired T’Pau singer Carol Decker took time out from rehearsing (and nursing a broken arm) to chat to The Courier.

“I’ve played at beautiful Scone Palace a few times and absolutely love it,” she said.

“It always feel like being in a foreign country because the landscape is so different from where I live down south.

“It’s a very different countryside and I always love Rewind Scotland as it gives me a chance to experience that.

“I just hope my arm will have healed by then! I broke it tripping over a chair and it’s so sore!”

Carol found fame in 1987 after T’Pau’s first single Heart and Soul featured in a Pepe Jeans commercial.

After a string of hits, including China in Your Hand and Valentine, the group split in 1998 but later reformed and released a new album in 2015.

So what can fans expect when T’Pau hit the stage at Rewind?

“It’s going to be all the big hits – everything you might expect,” said Carol.

“It’s always a pleasure to perform these and even though I’ve played them thousands of times, the audience always lifts me.”

When asked what her finale tune will be, Carol said: “What do you think?! China in Your Hand!”

This year is huge for T’Pau, with the release of their 30th year anthology, The Virgin Anthology, in March.

Rewind is the biggest party of the summer with camping, glamping, posh nosh, theme bars, DJs, street entertainment, funfairs, a silent disco, a kidzone for the little ones, fireworks, trade stands, fancy dress and much more!
