Fife-formed indie rock band Shambolics have released the first single from their upcoming EP.
The release of ‘Like A Breeze’ at midnight on November 11 follows their recent signing to Manchester-based Scruff of the Neck Records, as reported by The Courier.
It comes as the band look forward to sold out gigs supporting Dundee-band The View in Glasgow in mid-December, as well as a charity gig at PJ Molloys in Dunfermline to raise money for Kirkcaldy Foodbank.
Being creative
Co-lead vocalist and guitarist Darren Forbes, a former pupil of Kirkcaldy High School, said: “Everything we do revolves around the live performance and how a song we write will go down with the crowd.
“We love experimenting and being creative in the studio, but that’s only half the story for us.
“Our shows are a collective experience, so if a song gets people going mad at a gig then we’ve got a winner.”
Shambolics have begun to make a name for themselves amongst key tastemakers with extensive radio support including from BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio Scotland, Radio X, Talk Sport, and more including in 2017 when they won the 2017 SAMA Award for ‘Best Rock/Alternative Act’.
Live performances
Now based in Glasgow, they are also renowned for their live performances.
In addition to playing numerous festivals across the UK, including TRNSMT, Stockton Calling, and Sound City, Shambolics have supported cult bands, including The View and Embrace at sold-out venues across the country.
Shambolics are Lewis McDonald and Darren Forbes (vocals/guitar), Ben Sharp (bass), Jake Bain (drums/backing vocals), and Scotty Paws (keyboard/backing vocals).
In 2019, Shambolics signed with Creation23 – a side project by Creation Records legend Alan McGee, the man who discovered Oasis – who has supported the band since through his Creation management company.
During Covid-19, the band “did their own thing” to “be more creative”.

Scruff of the Neck
While the band are no longer part of the Creation label, Darren recently told The Courier that Creation had been an “important stepping stone”, and they still have the backing of McGee who helps oversee their decisions with long-time manager Jamie Kelly.
Darren added: “One thing that Scruff of the Neck founder Mark Lippman said to me was you can put loads of money into a band and there can be lots of smoke screens and mirrors, but people turning up at gigs and going absolutely mental – you just can’t fake that!”
