It’s a pretty big year for The Snowman. It’s been 40 years since the Oscar and BAFTA nominated film came out. In that time, the charming animation based on Raymond Briggs’ 1978 picture book has become a festive TV staple for families across the nation.
And perhaps just as famous is Aled Jone’s 1985 recording of one of The Snowman’s most popular songs, Walking in the Air.
Which explains why there’s an extra buzz in the air after the announcement that Aled Jones will join the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) to narrate a special Christmas performance of The Snowman in Dundee.
RSNO and Aled Jones unite for milestone performance
As well as being the 40th anniversary of the film, 2022 also marks the 20th annual performance of The Snowman by the RSNO. For two decades, people have travelled to see the RSNO perform Howard’s Blake legendary score during its annual Christmas Concert.
And this year, to celebrate the special milestones, radio and television star Aled Jones will join the RSNO for a performance of The Snowman in Dundee and other Scottish cities.
A spokesperson for RSNO said: “Aled Jones currently presents a radio show on Classic FM every Sunday from 7-10am playing a broad range of music, from classic British composers such as Vaughan Williams and Elgar, to romantic favourites from Rachmaninov and Beethoven. As Classic FM’s Orchestra in Scotland, the RSNO is delighted to be teaming up with one of its stars for what promises to be a fantastic series of concerts.”
