They’ve appeared on Debrett’s 2017 list of the most influential people in the UK and racked up more than 100million views for the video of Shout Out To My Ex in just a few months.
And now Little Mix, the world’s biggest girl group, is heading to Dundee on June 29 to play at Slessor Gardens as part of their Summer Shout Out tour of live shows.
Little Mix – Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson – will perform their signature hits, including their massive No. 1 single Shout Out to My Ex, Black Magic, Hair and Wings, alongside tracks from their new album Glory Days. The record spent a total of four weeks in the peak position and is the quickest selling album in the UK charts by a girl group since Destiny’s Child’s Survivor in 2001.
Not bad for a group that were literally thrown together by chance. All the members originally auditioned as solo artists on The X Factor and were put together for the show’s eighth series in 2011. They went on to win the competition, making them the first and, so far, the only group, ever to do so – and the rest is history.
With four UK number ones and four platinum albums, Little Mix’s popularity is largely down to the relatability of their songs. Shout Out To My Ex, for example, was partly inspired by Perrie’s public break-up with her fiance Zayn Malik – a topic that strikes a chord across the globe and the generations. The single won them Best British Single at the 2017 Brit Awards.
The girls, who acknowledge Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child, En Vogue and Rihanna as their musical influences, are looking forward to their Dundee date.
With around 11,000 fans expected to attend the sell-out concert, Little Mix is the second of three big names to be coming to Dundee this summer, following the success of UB40 in May, and ahead of cheeky Essex chappy Olly Murs on July 20 who completes the trio.
Liz Doogan-Hobbs, CEO of LHG Live, the promoters of all three concerts, is thrilled that the girls will be performing in Dundee: “Pop acts like Little Mix don’t come along that often and we are delighted that we are bringing the world’s biggest girl band to Dundee,” she enthuses.
