A ska outfit who spawned Scottish legends Fiction Factory are set to make their live comeback in Perth.
The Rude Boys, whose last gig was in 1982, are headlining this year’s Craigie Hill Music Festival, where they’ll be supported by Red Pine Timber Company, The Cascades, The Sandemans, Longstay, The Purple Felts, Irresistible Owls, Rancho Rebop, True Gents, The Sibellas, Los Supremos, Morag Murray, McMasters Trouble, The Yonderleas and Floyd Tomlinson.
Also known as The RB’s, the Fair City outfit’s Eddie Jordan, Chic Medley and Kevin Patterson went on to form Feels Like Heaven hit-makers Fiction Factory after earning support slots with the likes of Rose Royce, Bad Manners and The Bodysnatchers.
Keyboard player Jordan is being joined by four other original members — including frontman Stuart “Sparky” Campbell-Clark — for the reformed seven-piece’s outdoor appearance next Saturday (August 25).
The RB’s solitary album appeared in 1981, with their singles Explain and Uruguay attracting a cult following. Now in its third year, the 1000-capacity golf club event was headlined last year by ex-Fairground Attraction frontwoman Eddi Reader.

Local riff terrorists Houdini Said No are celebrating their lead guitarist Pablo Edwardo’s birthday by co-headlining at the Meadowside venue. Formed last November, the five-piece have supported LA southern metallers Bullets And Octane and impressed at Kirriemuir’s AC/DC-themed Bonfest in May.
They’ll be joined at Conroy’s by Perth-based alt rockers Astrophe. Originally a solo vehicle for singer-guitarist Alexandra Pawlitka, she was joined last year by Jack Hughes (guitar/backing vocals), George Robinson (bass) and Doug Rees (drums), with the band’s shoegazing/fuzzy Americana-influenced debut single Limerence appearing shortly after.

*** Australian rock’n’soul exponents PlanB are making their debut at Perth’s Green Room tonight.
The Adelaide outfit, whose influences include Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, Chicago and Otis Redding, have been around since 1982 and boast a three-piece horn section.
Tonight’s Canal Street gig is free, with doors opening at 8pm.
*** Brighton-based pop-punk outfit Reckless Intentions’ first Scottish visit includes Fife and Dundee dates.
The all-male four-piece, who cite Green Day, Neck Deep, All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, The Clash, Blink-182 and Foo Fighters as influences, are at Dunfermline rock haven Monty’s Bar tonight, before stopping at Conroy’s Basement tomorrow.
Reckless Intentions are being supported by politicised Scots trio The Dude Pistons at tonight’s show at Guildhall Street, with Dundee punks Overbites, modern rock trio Neon MGM and promising newcomers Sirens also on the bill.

The Perthshire-based Americana outfit have been working on their debut release at Glasgow’s 45 A-Side Studios with producer Paul McInally. They’ll be joined at Clarks by former Kashmir Crows frontman Ian Black and his new acoustic soul offering Languid Goat, which also features Jakub Holos (guitar) and Alex Campbell (bass).
*** A live session at Church tonight is set to feature a host of regulars on the Dundee scene.
The outfits playing the ‘Reunion Showcase’ at the Ward Road venue are Jumpin’ Little Jam Band, Delta Bay, Brian Doc Wound, T-Bone Collective and 440 Herts. The free gig runs from 9pm until 2am.

Scottish soundalikes Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Carpets are promising a unique take on the Manchester legends’ Liam-free MTV Unplugged performance in 1996. The two-hour show will conclude with renditions of Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ biggest anthems, including favourites from this year’s Who Built The Moon? album.
